Who I am

This website is run by Chewy Wang, doing business as Chewy Mandarin (“I” or “me”). I teach Mandarin to healthcare professionals. This notice explains what personal information the site collects, why I collect it, and the choices you have. If anything is unclear, please ask me using the details at the end.

What I collect

• Contact form: your first name, email address and the message you write.
• Free Pocket Guide: your first name and email address.
• Booking a session: when you book through the calendar on this site, you give your details (such as your name, email address, time zone and any notes) to Cal.com, which passes them on to me so I can hold the session.
• Payments: when you pay for a session, your card details go directly to Stripe. I never see or store your full card number. I receive a record of the payment, such as your name, email address, the amount and the date.
• Technical information: like most websites, the services that deliver this site can see your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. I use this only to keep the site working and secure.
• On your own device: the free lessons remember your progress (for example, items you have ticked off) in your browser’s local storage. This stays on your device and is not sent to me. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.

I don’t use advertising or analytics trackers on this site.

Please don’t send health information

Chewy Mandarin teaches language only. Please do not put patient names, patient details or anyone’s health information in the contact form, in a booking note or in an email to me. If you do, I will delete it where I can.

How I use your information

• To reply to your message or booking request.
• To email you the free Pocket Guide you asked for.
• To run the sessions you book, including sending you the session link.
• To take payment for sessions and keep financial and tax records.
• To keep the site working, secure and free of spam.
• To meet legal obligations, such as keeping records or answering a lawful request.

If I ever send you emails beyond the guide, such as news about new free lessons, each email will include a clear way to unsubscribe, and I will honor unsubscribe requests promptly. I do not sell your personal information, and I do not share it with anyone for their own advertising.

Who else handles your information

I use a few trusted services to run this site. They handle your information only to provide their service to me, and each has its own privacy policy.

• Web3Forms delivers contact-form messages to my email inbox and may keep a copy for a limited time.
• MailerLite is the email service I use. When you request the Pocket Guide, it stores your name and email address, asks you to confirm your email, sends you the guide and any emails you have asked for, and handles unsubscribes.
• Stripe processes card payments for paid sessions. It may also collect information to prevent fraud and to meet its legal obligations.
• Cal.com provides the booking calendar on this site and stores your booking details. Its embedded calendar may set its own cookies.
• Google: this site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google’s servers, which can see your IP address. Coaching sessions are held on Google Meet.
• My website host serves the pages and keeps standard server logs.

Links to other sites, such as Preply or social media, lead to services with their own privacy practices. I may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of others.

How long I keep it

I keep your information only as long as I need it for the purposes above, for example while we are in touch or while you are a student, and for a reasonable time afterward in case you write again or I need records. After that I delete it. Payment and tax records may be kept longer, as the law requires. You can ask me to delete your other information sooner (see below).

Your choices and rights

You can ask me at any time to:

• tell you what personal information I hold about you;
• correct it if it is wrong;
• delete it; or
• stop emailing you (you can also use the unsubscribe link in any email I send).

Depending on where you live (for example California, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom), you may have additional legal rights, such as receiving a copy of your information, objecting to or restricting how it is used, or complaining to your local data protection authority. I will not treat you differently for using any of these rights. I aim to reply within 30 days.

Security

Information sent through this site’s forms travels over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No method of sending or storing information online is completely secure, so I can’t promise absolute security, but I take reasonable steps to protect what you share with me.

Children

This site is for adults, especially healthcare professionals and students. It is not directed to children under 16, and I do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, please contact me and I will delete it.

Where your information is processed

My service providers may process information in the United States and in other countries. By using this site, you understand that your information may be transferred to those places.

Changes to this notice

I may update this notice from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.

About these terms

These terms apply when you book a session with me or use this website. I am Chewy Wang, doing business as Chewy Mandarin (“I” or “me”). By booking a session or using this site, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t book.

What I provide

I teach Mandarin as a language. My sessions, courses and materials are for language learning only. They are not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and I am not a medical interpreting or translation service. Nothing I teach replaces your workplace’s interpreter policy or a qualified medical interpreter, and you should always follow your facility’s rules when communicating with patients.

I can’t promise particular results, such as a test score or fluency, because progress depends on your practice.

Booking and payment

• Sessions are booked through an online calendar provided by Cal.com. You choose your time and receive a confirmation email.
• Paid sessions are paid for by card when you book, and payments are processed by Stripe. The price is shown before you pay, in US dollars.
• The free 15-minute pronunciation audit costs nothing.
• Sessions are held online on Google Meet. The link is in your confirmation email. You are responsible for a working internet connection, camera and microphone.

Cancelling and rescheduling

• If you cancel or reschedule at least 1 calendar day before your session, you can change the time at no cost or receive a full refund. Cal.com counts by calendar date, not by a full 24 hours, so canceling any time on the day before your session still qualifies.
• Cancellations made on the same calendar date as your session, and missed sessions, are not refunded.
• If you haven’t joined within 15 minutes after the scheduled start time, I will count the session as a no-show and end it. No-shows are not refunded.
• If you join late, the session still ends at its scheduled time.
• If I need to cancel, or a technical problem on my side stops the session, I will offer you a new time or a full refund.
• To cancel or reschedule, use the link in your confirmation email.

Refunds

Refunds are issued through Stripe to the card you paid with. Stripe sends the refund to your bank right away, and depending on your bank it usually appears within 5 to 10 business days.

Patient privacy

Please don’t share real patient names, records or health information in sessions, in booking notes or in messages to me. When we practice clinical conversations, we will use made-up examples. My Privacy Notice explains how I handle your own information.

Recordings

I won’t record a session without your permission. Please don’t record, or share a recording of, a session without mine.

Free resources and course materials

The Pocket Guide, lessons, images, audio and other materials on this site are © Chewy Mandarin. You may use them for your own learning. Please don’t copy, sell, post or share them without my written permission. Sharing a link to this website is always welcome.

Respectful conduct

Sessions are for adults aged 18 and over. I may end a session or decline future bookings if someone behaves in an abusive or unsafe way.

Limits of my responsibility

I provide language instruction with reasonable care, but I can’t guarantee that this site or its materials will always be available or free of errors. To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, and my total responsibility for any claim connected to a session or to these materials is limited to the amount you paid me for that session. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the law that cannot be limited. You are responsible for how you use what you learn in your own work.

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version. The version in effect when you book applies to that booking.
